Must have the ability to communicate in English and be proficient in reading and writing.
Full knowledge of all aspects of Hotel Operations.
Previous experience in hotel operations as Director of Operations or General Manager.
Understanding of California and Federal labor laws, proficient knowledge of California Health and Safety Code.
Ability to pass mandatory (or random) drug test per company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
JOB TITLE: Director, Hotel Operations
Oversees the daily operations of the hotel with the General Manager including security, maintenance, rooms, housekeeping, engineering, front desk, banquet rooms. Ensures that each department is providing efficient service while following all outlined company standards.
Performs administrative duties including: reading and writing reports, dictating memorandums and orally communicating with guests, managers, corporate office, local associations, etc. Reviews daily, weekly, and monthly department paperwork and reports, and takes action to implement appropriate corrective actions to resolve operational concerns. Supervises development of and revision to business plan, annual budget and annual and monthly forecasts. Takes over responsibilities of General Manager when away.
Able to manage and lead all room division departments within the hotel. Communicates with the public, staff, corporate office and owners. Participates in community affairs and maintain positive public image for Cedar Fair and the hotel.
Tours and visually inspects property on a daily basis. Monitors cost control, property condition, cleanliness and quality of product and service throughout hotel.
Makes judgments and implement changes to maximize profits. Assists in preparing and administering annual department operating budget. Makes overall adjustments (labor, ODC, COG) throughout the year to meet department specific goals. Makes daily downward adjustments and recommendations for upward adjustments to labor levels based on attendance and sales to meet cost center specific goals. Critically reviews reports of occupancy, revenue etc. Formulate, maintain, present complex reports.
Staffing & Development
Manages direct reports’ performance issues, addresses disciplinary situations, and provides significant input into promotion, demotion, and termination decisions; reviews adjust and approves performance appraisals for department staff on an annual basis. Greets and maintains rapport with associates and customers. Appropriately handles associate issues in conjunction with Human Resources following Cedar Fair policies. Ensures breaks are taken in accordance with Knott's Berry Farm and California State policies. Interviews, hires, supervises and counsels department managers in the efficient operation of their respective area(s). Meets with, develops, and delegates improvement plans for operation and review performance of management team. Communicates both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff. Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
