    The Director of Hotel Openings will be responsible for the coordination of all pre-opening departmental tasks of the opening critical path. The Team Member will also provide guidance and support for all new hotel development, acquisitions, and existing hotel renovation projects in the Caribbean and Latin America prior to the arrival of a designated General Manager.


    What will I be doing?

    The Director of Hotel Openings will liaise with Architecture, Design and Construction, Brands and all other disciplines as required regarding project management and will clearly communicate with ownership to establish Hilton requirements. The Team Member will act as a representative of Hilton, support the functions and report back on a regular basis to the Vice President of Operations and New Development - Americas to ensure consistency in the delivery of the Hilton standards.


    Other key priorities are listed below:

    • Support new builds, acquisitions, and renovation projects
    • Provide project management and organization, as well as gather the right information to link Feasibility, Operations, Architecture, Design and Construction and Brands to review and concur on necessary action items
    • Assist Operations in the review of the pro-forma and the establishment and presentation of the pre-opening budget
    • Determine the readiness of opening dates realistically and beyond ownership wishes and perceptions
    • Consistently have the best hotel to operate post-opening and acquisition, with the least amount of issues that will affect productivity, guest comfort, Team Member environment and bottom line
    • May be sought to support new projects in North America
    • Provide leadership oversight on special projects, transitions, and new property openings
    • Develop critical path and resources to support hotel openings
    • Work with Executive leaders, cross-functional and global teams to provide project leadership, business judgement, and analytical insight that will support guest experience and product enhancement initiatives globally
    • Ensure that operating plans and budgets for each property are completed on a timely basis and each Executive team is successfully implementing such plans for maximum performance and organizational excellence in operations and customer service
    • Collaborate with the Architecture and Construction regional team, and represent Hilton in the region
    • Execute pre-opening feasibility analysis for new construction and conversion projects to help determine potential alignment with Hilton brands, as well as identify operations deficiencies, and provide solutions for improvement
    • Provide Operations direction that is in alignment with the Brands vision, focusing on maximizing revenue generation potential and guests' experience
    • Promote and manage a positive business relationship between Hilton disciplines, owners, consultants and suppliers
    • Provide clear information and educate owners, asset managers, project managers, architecture and interior designers and other consultants
    • Responsible for providing technical guidance and services, enforcing operation standards, and for monitoring pre-opening activities for hotel projects
    • Manage the business relationship with qualified regional consultants and suppliers
    • Manage effective partnerships and conduct effective management of third party partners
    • Understand Operations to the extent of getting departmental operations processes right in terms of equipment layout, etc.
    • Travel throughout the Latin American territory as needed to participate in project review meetings with Hilton Team Members, owners and consultants as necessary
    • Address concerns immediately, in person, while at the site, and also provide detailed written correspondence following the site visit
    • Execute operations strategies and directions for new hotel construction and renovation projects in CALA, evaluating efforts to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
    • Implement the direction given by executive management to ensure the overall strategic direction of Operations- CALA is consistent with and supported by Human Resources, Legal and Finance and all other relevant disciplines
    • Manage the cross-functional links between corporate and Operations
    • Review Operations processes at all stages of projects for conformity to specific brand standards and guidelines and Hilton direction
    • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to Hilton management, owners and other stakeholders
    • Determine staffing needs and supports in the recruiting, selecting, hiring, training and developing of departmental Team Members as needed
    • Ensure appropriate talent is identified in compliance with operations manning guidelines
    • Direct and implement proper controls for Operations - CALA
    • Translate organizational goals and objectives into performance standards for division, department and individual positions
    • Assess actual performance against standards to determine whether the project is on target to reach its goals and take corrective actions as necessary
    • Ensure the business plan and goals are being followed and achieved, providing feedback or revising the plan, if needed
    • Establish and enforce policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the Company
    • Monitor the return on invested capital and time resources
    • Work within established Operations budget
    • Review and make suggestions for appropriate adjustments in activities and expenses throughout the project to ensure optimal financial results
    • Help build the strength of the brands by ensuring owner and developer compliance
    • Track and update internal project data to maintain all projects current in database
    • Ability to direct collaborative efforts of other resources throughout the Hilton organization, possibly including internal resources, external resources and other constituent groups as appropriate with aim of furthering Company goals
    • Fully Bi-lingual (English and Spanish), a third language desired, preferably Portuguese
    • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills, as well as excellent written communication skills
    • Ability to analyze departmental financial data as required in making strategic and tactical decisions
    • Ability to manage change, resolve conflicts and ensure collaboration within teams and/or units; includes maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity

    • Understanding of the principles and practical application of Microsoft PowerPoint
    • Budget development and management skills, including the ability to track expenses against commitments, set priorities for funding, and develop annual budgets
    • Knowledge of business mathematics, including the ability to calculate percentage changes, averages and weighted averages; working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including the ability to understand and manipulate basic spreadsheets
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)




    What are we looking for?

    To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

    • BA/BS Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
    • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in Hospitality Operations roles, including a minimum of two (2) years of management experience
    • Fluent English and Spanish - written and spoken
    • Ability to travel extensively as required (75% +)

    It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

    • MA/MS Master's Degree or equivalent
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of Hospitality industry experience, with a mix of experience from various Operations roles
